BMC Surveys Pets for Rabies Free India

Mumbai pet owners play a crucial role in eliminating zoonotic diseases

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has launched a comprehensive pet survey in Mumbai as part of its ambitious Mumbai Rabies Elimination Project. This initiative is a significant step towards achieving the national goal of a Rabies Free India by 2030. BMC has partnered with the NGO Y.O.D.A. (Youth Organisation in Defence of Animals) and Zimaxx Tech Solutions Pvt Ltd. to collect vital data about the city’s pet population.

The survey focuses on gathering information about pets’ health, vaccination status, and registration. This data is crucial for BMC’s efforts to control zoonotic diseases like rabies and leptospirosis, which can spread from animals to humans. The Mumbai Rabies Elimination Project emphasizes responsible pet ownership by encouraging pet registration and regular vaccination, ensuring the health and safety of both pets and their owners.
